ProWal online campaign to close the dolphinarium at the Epson Aquapark Shinagawa in Tokyo/Japan

The key to ending cruel dolphin hunts in Taiji/Japan lies in closing dolphinaria!

Worldwide there are around 350 facilities in which dolphins and whales are imprisoned and exploited to serve commercial interests. Throughout the world 106 dolphinaria have already acquired marine mammals caught in the wild directly from Taiji. The number of dolphinaria which have received dolphins from Taiji indirectly, that is through transfers, and abuse them for their shows, is not known.

The largest sales market for dolphins and whales caught in the wild is Japan itself!

In Japan itself there are about 55 dolphinaria in which dolphins and also whales caught in the wild, from Taiji, are exploited. Breeding is the exception rather than the rule in these facilities and the demand for further marine mammals taken from the sea is very high.

Unfortunately there has so far been no major resistance to the dolphinaria in Japan itself, and there have been hardly any campaigns calling for their closure. We want to change this and we are now starting an online campaign to close a dolphinarium in Tokyo, where 11 dolphins and whales are captive in a very confined space.

First we would like to give you the following background information on this online campaign.

The dolphinarium is located in the Epson Aquapark in the Tokyo suburb of Shinagawa in the middle of a huge building complex. In addition to the Prince Hotel, with its 3,600 rooms, there are also shopping malls, restaurants, bowling alleys, swimming baths and car parks etc.

ProWal-Online-Kampagne zur Schließung des Delfinariums im Epson Aquapark Shinagawa in Tokyo/Japan

Der Schlüssel, um die grausamen Delfin-Treibjagden in Taiji/Japan zu beenden, ist die Schließung von Delfinarien!

Weltweit existieren etwa 350 Anlagen, in denen Delfine und Wale in Gefangenschaft gehalten und für kommerzielle Interessen ausgebeutet werden. 106 Delfinarien weltweit haben bereits wildgefangene Meeressäuger direkt aus Taiji erworben. Die Anzahl der Delfinarien, die indirekt, also über Weitergaben, Delfine aus Taiji aufgenommen und für ihre Shows missbrauchen, ist unbekannt.

Der größte Absatzmarkt für wildgefangene Delfine und Wale ist Japan selbst!

In Japan selbst existieren etwa 55 Delfinarien, in denen sich zumeist wildgefangene Delfine und gar auch Wale aus Taiji befinden. Nachzuchten sind in diesen Anlagen eher die Ausnahmen und die Nachfrage nach weiteren Meeressäugern, die dem Meer entrissen werden, ist sehr groß.

Leider gab es bisher keinen großen Widerstand gegen die Delfinarien in Japan selbst und auch kaum Aktionen, um deren Schließungen zu erreichen. Wir wollen dies ändern und starten hiermit eine Online-Aktion zur Schließung eines Delfinariums in Tokyo, in dem 11 Delfine und Wale auf engstem Raum eingesperrt sind.

Stellte Hauptsponsor EPSON nach Online-Protesten Sponsoring für japanisches Delfinarium ein?

Ende 2015 besuchten wir das EPSON-Delfinarium in Tokio und stellten dort katastrophale Haltungsbedingungen fest.

Das Delfinarium befindet sich im "Epson Aquapark" in dem Stadtteil Shinagawa in Tokio in einem riesigen Gebäudekomplex. Neben dem Prince-Hotel mit seinen 3.600 Zimmern, befinden sich dort auch Shopping-Malls, Restaurants, Bowling-Bahnen, Schwimmbäder, Parkhäuser, etc.

Fünf Große Tümmler, vier Weißseiten-Delfine und zwei Kleine Schwertwale (False killer whales) fristeten damals in einem winzigen Show-Becken und in einem kleinen Außenbecken bei einem Parkhaus ihr Dasein. Ein Seehund war zudem in einem winzigen Käfig eingesperrt.

Der Eigentümer dieses Delfinariums ist das japanische Firmen-Konsortium Seibu-Group, welches durch ihren Hauptsponsor EPSON unterstützt wurde. EPSON gehört zu den weltweit größten Herstellern von Druckern, Scannern, digitalen Fotoapparaten, Personal Computern, Laptops, etc. Vor und in dem Delfinarium, auch auf Flyern, war das Konterfei von EPSON überdimensional präsent und die Firma profitierte davon auch mit dem Verkauf seiner Produkte!

Ende 2015 erstellten wir eine Online-Aktion auf unserer Webseite und auch bei Facebook, bei der sich jeder u.a. auch bei der Firma EPSON über seine inakzeptable Unterstützung für diese Tierquälerei beschweren konnte.

Vor ein paar Tagen führten wir eine weitere Recherche in diesem Delfinarium durch. Die großen Werbetafeln mit dem Schriftzug EPSON sind überall ausgetauscht worden. Der Name EPSON war nirgendwo mehr zu lesen! Auch auf den Werbe-Flyern des Delfinariums und auch auf diversen Webseiten sind der Name und auch das EPSON-Logo nirgendwo mehr zu finden!

Wir werden die Firma EPSON kontaktieren, um herauszufinden, ob ihr Sponsoring für dieses Delfinarium eingestellt wurde, was natürlich hinsichtlich der fehlenden Werbung und auch finanzieller Unterstützung gegen diese Anlage ein großer Erfolg wäre!

Bei der Recherche jetzt im Januar 2017 stellten wir fest, dass ein Kleiner Schwertwal fehlte. Ob er verstarb oder an ein anderes Delfinarium abgegeben wurde, ist uns nicht bekannt. Die Show, welche noch vor einem Jahr über 1.000 Besucher anlockte, scheint heute kein Magnet mehr zu sein. Etwa 100 Personen verloren sich auf den weiten Rängen. Wir werden dazu noch berichten.

Wir warten nun die Antwort von EPSON ab und werden dann die Online-Aktion gegen den Betreiber (Prince-Hotelkette und deren Vermittler) erneuen, bei der sich dann hoffentlich auch wieder viele beteiligen werden.
